Allowing and blocking ad controls guide

back forward
To give you editorial control over the ads that appear on your site, we offer several options for reviewing and blocking ads that may appear on your pages.
The Allow & block ads tab in your account, is the place where you tell us if there are any ads you don't want, and what kinds you don't want.

Ad review center

Think of the ad review center as the holding pen for placement-targeted ads that may appear on your pages. You can use your Settings page to choose your review setting:
  • Hold all ads for a 24-hour review period
This setting lets you take a look at them before they show up on your site and decide whether you want them to appear on your pages, or not.
  • Run ads immediately
This option maximizes your potential revenue by opening up competition among all ads eligible to appear on your site right away.
Whichever setting you choose, you can review ads that are eligible to display on your pages and allow or block them, by ad group or advertiser. If you choose "Hold ads", you'll see the new ads under theAwaiting review tab. If you choose "Run ads", you'll see them on the Allowed tab.
Ads you've blocked in the past are, logically, found on the Blocked tab.

Other blocking options

You can also block ads in a few other ways: by advertiser URL, ad category, or ad network.
  • Advertiser URLs
Let's say you run WidgetUniverse.com and your biggest competitor runs WidgetGalaxy.com. Since your page content is about widgets, WidgetGalaxy ads are automatically matched to your site. To avoid showing your competitor' ads, you can add WidgetGalaxy.com to your list of blocked advertiser URLs, and avoid see another ad from them again.
  • Ad category
You can block ads from categories related to sensitive topics such as Religion, Politics, and References to Sex and Sexuality. Category blocking is available for ads in a limited set of languages, regardless of the language of the site.
  • Ad network
Ads from certified Google ad networks are allowed to appear on your pages by default. On this page, you can allow and block specific third-party ad networks, or all future ad networks.
